Mike Dillard-NoExcuses

So … what inspires Mike Dillard??? … and all the other Top Industry Gurus who spoke at The No Excuses Summit? Great question … and one I intended on asking. All these Internet celebrities giving their best stuff, basically for free! What an outstanding concept!!! But I wanted to get inside their hearts and heads just a little bit deeper and I wanted to share it with YOU!

So, with cameras in my hands and butterflies in my belly, I headed off for the bright city lights – hoping to return with a lot of inspired footage, stories and … No More Excuses. Here’s what happened … [...]

Sam Rubino LIVE

SamRubino

I realize the tagline is ordinary people|extraordinary lives … but I have to admit that I really don’t see ANYONE as ordinary, and certainly not Sam Rubino. An engineering student at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, Sam has had a heap of honors and awards already in his life – from athletics to academics.

But he always seems to look his best and be his happiest when he’s on the river!

Can’t say as I blame him.

What inspires Sam? I’m going to let him tell you himself:

Please enable Javascript and Flash to view this Viddler video.

To Your Wonderful Inspired Life,

Buff Elting

P.S. Ever long for a river to run through YOUR life? What is your favorite place to be and why? Please leave me a comment … it’s mid-summer and the days are already getting shorter! Get out there and enjoy your one wild and precious life!!! And don’t forget to leave your name and email in the form above on the right. I’d love to send you the “What Inspires Mike Dillard?” video series.

And if you’d like to see more photos from this beautiful river trip, head on over to my Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/buffelting/  (http://bit.ly/cAUbyb)

P.P.S. We’ll miss you on Lodore next week Sam!

The Light of Birds by Lawrence Ferlinghetti

The Light of Birds

I early learned to love birds

the light of birds the kingdom of birds

in the high treetops

stricken with light

living their separate

weightless lives

Light years they lived

apart from us

flashing in sunlight

high above Bronx River Parkway

or high on Hudson’s Palisades

they flew about

light as leaves

(and they were as leaves

except in the fall

when they did not fall)

calling to each other

over and over

in the upper air

or lost in the sky

as they soared up there

way up behind the reservoir

where we came as kids

chattering like birds

on a Sunday at sundown

and played in the falling light

and heard for the first time

the distant muffled caws

of our own night

Lawrence Ferlinghetti – San Francisco, CA

Gratitude For Our Military

In general, I don’t believe that war, or fighting in general, are the best solutions to the problems and disagreements we face in our lives or in the world. However, I am extremely grateful for my freedoms as an American citizen and realize that no matter what I personally believe in, men and women have been giving their time and sometimes their lives, to ensure that those freedoms remain strong and viable.

So, on this day after the 4th of July, I wanted to share this video from our First Lady, Michelle Obama. I really appreciated her reminder to all of us to continually express our thanks to our military and their families, who sacrifice so much to maintain our freedom. My own step-daughter, Anna Rubino, is currently serving in the Navy as an Intelligence Specialist with Top-Secret clearances. Her time in the military has been interesting, and relatively pain-free, but a certain level of sacrifice on her part, never-the-less … and her family really admires and appreciates her for the outstanding job she is doing.

If you are reading this and you are in the military or have someone in your family who is, please consider this as my personal thank you!

May you always enjoy the freedom to live your life to its fullest potential and never take it for granted!

Wishing you Peace, Harmony & Freedom,

Celebrate Summer With Mini-Vacations

Bounding Fawn It’s summer - at least here in the northern hemisphere – and I was wondering … what are you doing to boost your spirits and maintain the energy and momentum with all the work you need to do (regardless of summer) and all the fun you want to have (because, hey, it’s summer!)

I took this photo in my next-door-neighbor’s front yard yesterday evening and I’ll tell you about it in a minute, but first I wanted to share this quick tip about how to give yourself a mini-vacation:

I was working on some technical computer stuff and, as so often happens, it was bogging me down. It was HOT again today … and I had been sweltering in the heat of my office, basically feeling less and less inspired to accomplish much of anything at all. It suddenly dawned on me that there were probably a lot of other people feeling the same way about now, working away in the heat of a hot summer afternoon when they would rather be swimming in the pool or shopping at the air-conditioned mall or laying in a hammock under a huge, spreading tree with a terrific book in one hand and an icy-cold drink in the other … [...]

6 Free Steps To Solstice Inspiration

Green River, Red Canyon

After spending several days on the Green River in Utah  this week, I had planned  to write today about what it would be like to live in a state of non-stop inspiration – like Mother Nature and the River. But before I had a chance to begin, I received the following note from a friend and felt compelled to share it with you right away:

…I just wanted to pass on that Chief Looking Horse of the Sioux has issued an international call to prayer for the solstice, June 21. He said it very beautifully, full article in the Bohemian which you can undoubtedly read online under an article called Great Spirit. But the important part is that we all pray an way we want, in our sacred place and manner for the re-balancing of the earth.  He says, “On June 21, shut off the electricity and let’s pray.  If we are going to survive we need spirit and compassion.  People without spirit are dangerous.  We are up against a lot of violence and hatred.”  He goes on and it is very beautiful. So now you have it. I will be praying, too.” (Carol Thompson)  …. and I will be praying too. You can also read what Chief Looking Horse himself has to say about this …

How A Little “River Time” Can Brighten Your Day

Red Canyon morning River Time is a phrase used to describe thezone” one enters after a day or two on a river, moving along with the current at whatever speed it’s flowing. Anyone who has spent time on a river will know what I’m talking about and will instantly be transported to that feeling. For everyone else, trust me when I say that it is sublime.

I’m thinking about it today as I prepare to leave tomorrow for a few days on the Green River in the far NE corner of Utah. There’s a long list of chores and errands and details to take care of to pull off any private river trip, but the rewards are more than worth it and by this time tomorrow night, I’ll be staring up at the brilliance swath of the Milky Way against an inky sky, listening to the sound of the river thrumming me to sleep.

And if I may tonight, I’d like to suggest that maybe we could all small find ways to introduce a little river time into our lives on a regular basis … and in doing so, experience some wonderful, life-changing benefits. [...]

On Landmarks & Congruency

Golden Gate & Spires of Madagascar

Landmarks We all have them. Familiar signposts that help us find our way back home … and to places we’ve never been before. Without them, chances are many of us would spend a great deal of time being lost. Yes, some are extremely subtle – to the point of being taken-for-granted that we ignore them on an unconscious level (after many years in the same house, I long ago stopped even noticing the visual clues that guide me home … my body/mind awareness is automatic at this point)… but where would we be without the signs that mark our way in the “forest”? And I’m curious, how does this phenomenon relate to tracking down success – in business, relationships and multiple personal goals? These days, it’s easy to rent or buy a car with on-board GPS, and Map Quest is a way of life. In other words, it’s not that hard to get directions to where you want to go. Why then are physical and emotional landmarks still so important to most of us? [...]
